Soroban Abacus Class

The Soroban is the Japanese abacus. It will help your child learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide much faster and more confidently than they could on a calculator or with paper and pencil.

In this workshop, your child will learn how to use the Soroban, and gain lasting benefits.

The Soroban is a part of many countries’ math curricula, which enables them to achieve high math scores.

Your child will benefit from personalized attention from our teacher within this small group of 6 to 10 students.

Over time, children using the Soroban build a visual and mental picture that facilitates an excellent mental calculation ability.

At what age can you start Sorobran Abacus training ?

The typical ages to start are 5-13. If your child is between the ages of 5-13, you should start as early as possible within that time range, but as long as you catch that window they can learn. Because of the developmental stages in the brain at this age the elementary years are a prime time for learning.

My child is an average learner. Will Abacus Mental Math help him ?

All children are smart because the brain is amazing ! Your child is already smart. Abacus math training will bring out this potential and help your child do his best.

What is abacus math ?

Abacus (Soroban in Japanese) is a tool which is used to help students to develop mental arithmetic skills in their 4 fundamental operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). The program is to train the students to use the power of visualization and logical thinking skills in order to enable them to perform mathematical calculations.

My child failed their first math test. What can I do ?

The first step is not to be too alarmed. When you register your child for a private tutoring session at Math-Plus, they will be supported by qualified and experienced tutors. Our tutors will be able to support your children in their studies and help them establish clear and realistic objectives that will help them with their school exams. It is also up to the child to make the necessary effort to achieve their goals.

How soon can private math tutoring improve my child's results ?

We understand that every child is unique. Our tutoring sessions are adapted to support your child at their learning pace. Supporting and encouraging them is our priority, as is inspiring self-confidence in children so that they can enjoy mathematics. Improvement depends on the effort your child puts into learning. We will offer progress report to help the child achieve their objectives.The more diligent the child is, the more quickly they will improve.

Can I receive a tax credit if I register my child at École Math-Plus ?

Yes. Tutoring, homework help and academic support services may be eligible for a tax credit under certain conditions. We will give you a receipt upon request to benefit from these credits.
